Order of Service

-Prayer Focus of the Week: Pillar Dumfries

Scripture Reading: James 2:14–26:

14 What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? 15 pIf a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good1 is that? 17 So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

18 But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. 19 You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder! 20 Do you want to be shown, you foolish person, that faith apart from works is useless? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered up his son Isaac on the altar? 22 You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was completed by his works; 23 and the Scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”—and he was called a friend of God. 24 You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone. 25 And in the same way was not also Rahab the prostitute justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out by another way? 26 For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead.

Announcements:

Leadership Meeting – If you are an elder, deacon, and ministry leader, please make plans to join us after service NEXT WEEK, Sunday, February 25, for a leadership meeting.

Del Rio DonationsWe are collecting K-Cups for the teachers and staff of Del Rio once again! If you would like to contribute by purchasing K-Cups or coffee condiments, we will collect them over the next two weeks.
The principal has also expressed the need for an ice machine as they often do not have ice on hand when providing drinks for the staff. If you would like to help financially towards this need, please indicate “Del Rio teachers” or something similar on your envelope or in the “notes” section of PayPal if you choose to give online. If you have any questions, please respond to this email. Thank you for your kindness and generosity towards the Del Rio crew!

Fasting – If you missed last week’s message on fasting, please listen to it here! Pastor Trace outlines why and how we’ll be fasting corporately.
This week, we are starting our build toward the month of fasting in March. Remember, taking small steps over the next few weeks will better prepare us for the collective effort ahead. Here is a simple plan for the next few weeks:

Week 1 – Fast one meal (lunch is a great start or a block of time such as 10 am-3 pm) this week.

Week 2 – Fast two meals (breakfast and lunch or a block of time such as 6 am-6 pm) the following week. If you don’t usually eat these meals, then get creative on a different meal or period of time (e.g., you’ll fast 10 am-8 pm, or fast dinner and plan to eat breakfast)

Week 3 – Do the two meals again or try for 24 hours. A helpful rhythm is after dinner (6:30 pm) to dinner the following night (6:30 pm, eating that meal). So even though it’s 24 hours, you’re really only skipping two meals….plus all the snacking 😁

This leads us into the first week of March, which we’ll talk more about as we get closer, but the main idea is that 1 person will volunteer for a particular date in March, leading to Easter. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask!

Life Groups – Our Life Groups are back in session! We have two groups meeting during the week and are both open to anyone who’d like to study the word and get to know people on a deeper level.

Wednesday Nights at the Furtados, 155 McKinley, Oceanside facilitated by Trace Martinez

Friday Nights at the Massies, 1615 Calle Las Casas, Oceanside facilitated by the Massies

Both groups meet at 6pm and have a potluck followed by a study. The Wednesday night potluck is dinner, while the Friday night potluck is dessert only.

Our Life Groups are designed to grow us spiritually, relationally, and numerically. We will cover a wide variety of topics in these mid-week sessions that will increase your biblical knowledge. You will also have the opportunity to grow in relationships with other church members as you “do life” together with them. Lastly, we must be regularly reminded that God is at work ADDING TO his family. His mission to grow his family is our mission too.

Fight Clubs are same-gender groups of about three people encouraging each other to live a life aligned with the gospel of Jesus Christ. The ultimate goal is to love Jesus more, through our affection for him and our allegiance to him, by helping each other rehearse the gospel and fight sin. Fight Clubs strive to meet at least twice a month for an intentional, focused time devoted to the word and genuine fellowship. For more information or to sign up contact:
