WELCOME
Just as followers of Jesus have done for over 2,000 years, we gather each week to worship God together. We gather on Saturday evenings at 4:30PM, and conclude around 5:45PM. Our gathering place is at First Baptist Church of San Luis Rey (see directions below), located at 101 Stallion Drive, Oceanside, CA.

VISITING PILLAR
Our hospitality team serves tea, water, and light snacks most Saturdays, and we enjoy a potluck dinner after service every Big Saturday (1st Saturday of the month). Most congregants like to arrive a bit early to enjoy some snacks and fellowship in the Fellowship Hall before service. If you’re planning a visit, come a few minutes before service–we’d love to take the extra time to get to know you!
As we begin our time of worship, we sing several songs, offer prayers and hear Scripture read.
Preaching at Pillar Church is generally expositional, meaning that it seeks to declare the point of a particular Biblical passage. Sermons usually last around 30 – 40 minutes and are packed with material for reflection. All preaching is driven by the Gospel, the Bible’s main message of God saving sinners through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. After the sermon, we take celebrate the Lord’s supper together, and also offer a Q&A portion if there are any questions regarding the morning’s sermon.
The music we sing at Pillar Church is a blend of old and new. We love the doctrinally rich hymns of the sixteenth century and we find blessing in the choruses of the twenty-first. Most of us who are comfortable with music from one particular era have discovered, while at Pillar, that we have come to enjoy other songs we had not previously encountered. We strongly prefer congregational singing, which emphasizes the gathered body singing praise to God with one voice, over performed music, which tends to spotlight the abilities of some while encouraging passivity in the rest.
We do not have a dress code, or cultural expectations related to what you wear. Most dress casually. We permit our Texans to wear boots and belt buckles, because we know they will anyway.
CHILDREN’S CHURCH
Every week, childcare is provided for children from birth to 5 years of age.
Our K-5 Class, Pillar Treehouse, meets every week after worship, with the exception of Big Saturday, which is the first Saturday of the month. We feel that it’s extremely important that children realize that “big church” isn’t just for the adults. Children are encouraged to take notes and participate in worship with their families on Big Saturday.
We take the safety of our children, and yours, very seriously. To that end, each childcare worker must pass a comprehensive background check.
Our greeters will direct you to where our children’s classes meet. And, if you’d prefer, your children are more than welcome to remain with you in our worship gathering.
Also, the speakers in the nursery (directly across the hall from the sanctuary) play the message and provide a sort of “cry room”. This offers a place for moms with littles to tend to their children’s needs while streaming audio from the main worship gathering so you don’t have to miss out.
FAQ
Our services are about an hour and a half. We usually sing 3-5 songs and the sermon lasts about 35 minutes. We also have a short Q&A time permitting at the end of the service.
As a church, we are continually seeking the Lord’s guidance in all we do, including when and where we gather. Through months of prayer, fasting, and discussions among our leadership team, we felt the Lord leading us toward a season of change. Meeting on Saturday nights at First Baptist Church of San Luis Rey is part of this journey.
This shift reflects our commitment to being spiritually and financially healthy as we remain open to God’s direction. It also offers us a unique opportunity to foster a partnership with FBC San Luis Rey, strengthening relationships and working together to grow God’s Kingdom in this community. While this may look different from what we’re used to, we trust that this is where the Lord is leading us in this season, and we are excited for the possibilities it brings.
