Prayer Focus of the Week: Pillar Okinawa

Scripture Reading: Colossians 2:16-23 (ESV)

16 Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath. 17 These are a shadow of the things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ. 18 Let no one disqualify you, insisting on asceticism and worship of angels, going on in detail about visions, puffed up without reason by his sensuous mind, 19 and not holding fast to the Head, from whom the whole body, nourished and knit together through its joints and ligaments, grows with a growth that is from God. 20 If with Christ you died to the elemental spirits of the world, why, as if you were still alive in the world, do you submit to regulations— 21 “Do not handle, Do not taste, Do not touch” 22 (referring to things that all perish as they are used)—according to human precepts and teachings? 23 These have indeed an appearance of wisdom in promoting self-made religion and asceticism and severity to the body, but they are of no value in stopping the indulgence of the flesh.

Group Life Membership Class – God’s design for his church is that we would live as the family he creates us to be in Christ. Healthy families express their commitment to each other in various ways. Healthy churches also express their commitment to each other in various ways. One of the primary ways we express our commitment to each other as a church family is through meaningful church membership.

The starting point for our membership process begins with our Group Life course. Completing the class does not automatically make you a member of Pillar Church, but the class is a prerequisite for those who wish to go through the membership process. Our goal is that by the conclusion of the course, you will have a clear understanding of the beliefs, direction, and structure of our church family, as well as knowledge of the benefits and expectations of membership with Pillar Church.

Our next Group Life Membership Class will be held on Sunday, April 30th directly after church. Lunch will be provided. Please connect with one of the elders if you have questions and contact Trace at 760-505-0843 if you would like to RSVP.

Baptism Sunday – Baptism is a public expression of an inward conviction. We follow in Jesus’ example by demonstrating our faith and identity in Jesus through this very meaningful act. If you have not yet been baptized and would like to be, please speak to Trace and we will make that happen. The next celebration of baptisms will take place as a part of our regular worship gathering on Sunday, May 7th. Trace can be reached at (760) 505-0843.

Life Groups – Our Life Groups play a significant role in the life of believers. As their name suggests, we are literally “doing life” with one another. It’s in these smaller groups where relationships are deepened and the opportunity for biblical fellowship increases from Sunday morning interactions.

  • Oceanside: This Life Group meets every Friday at 6pm at the Massie home, 1615 Calle Las Casas in Oceanside. Please check BAND for more details. If you are not on the church’s Band account, please sign up–this is where we post meals and Life Group info.
  • San Onofre: This Life Group meets on the last Sunday of the month from 4-6pm in San Onofre Housing. The next meeting will be April 30th at a home TBD. We’ll be sharing a potluck-style meal with a bible study as well. For more info please contact Keith MacDonald at (757) 513-5059.

Giving – There are several ways to give at Pillar Church. Click here to give online, or you may drop your offering in the box located on the Welcome Table. Thank you for your contribution!

Fight Clubs are same-gender groups of about three people encouraging each other to live a life aligned with the gospel of Jesus Christ. The ultimate goal is to love Jesus more, through our affection for him and our allegiance to him, by helping each other rehearse the gospel and fight sin. Fight Clubs strive to meet at least twice a month for an intentional, focused time devoted to the word and genuine fellowship. For more information or to sign up contact:
