We aren’t simply military-friendly. The military community is part of our mission.
Pillar Church of Oceanside sits just outside the gates of Camp Pendleton, one of the largest Marine Corps installations in the country. That isn’t simply part of our geography, it’s intentional, as this is the mission God has given our church.
Military life is uniquely transient. New families arrive every few years, put down roots, build relationships, and often receive orders to leave again just a few years later. Rather than seeing that constant movement as an obstacle to building a church, we see it as an opportunity for the Gospel.
Our desire is to welcome people into the life of the local church, help them grow deeply in their relationship with Christ, equip them to make disciples, and then send them well wherever the Lord takes them next.
A Church Near Camp Pendleton With a Bigger Mission
We want the Gospel to be known in Oceanside, throughout North County San Diego, and aboard Camp Pendleton. But because of the unique nature of the military community, ministry here rarely stays here.
A Marine discipled at Camp Pendleton may receive orders to North Carolina, Virginia, Okinawa, or somewhere else entirely. A military spouse who learns to study Scripture and disciple others here carries those tools into the next community. Families who learn what it means to belong deeply to a local church can help strengthen another church at their next duty station.
In a community where people are constantly being sent, we want to be a church that sends people prepared.
That means we don’t simply want military members and families to attend Pillar. We want them woven into the life of the church—worshiping, serving, growing, discipling others, and being discipled themselves.
Military, Veterans, and Civilians—One Church Family
Being military-focused does not mean being military-exclusive.
Pillar is made up of active-duty service members, military spouses and families, veterans, and civilians. We believe the local church provides something especially valuable in a military community: a family rooted not in rank, branch, duty station, or career, but in Christ.
Orders change, commands change, communities change, but the family of God goes with you.
Part of Something Bigger
Pillar Church of Oceanside is part of the Praetorian Project, a family of multiplying churches in military communities around the world.
Together, these churches share a vision for reaching military communities with the Gospel, making disciples through the local church, raising up leaders, and planting healthy churches near military installations around the world.
For military families, that also means a PCS doesn’t always mean starting completely from scratch. You may leave one Pillar church only to find another church family waiting near your next duty station.
