Prayer Focus of the Week: Pillar San Antonio

Scripture Reading: James 2:14–26 (ESV)

14 What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? 17 So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
18 But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. 19 You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder! 20 Do you want to be shown, you foolish person, that faith apart from works is useless? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered up his son Isaac on the altar? 22 You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was completed by his works; 23 and the Scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”—and he was called a friend of God. 24 You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone. 25 And in the same way was not also Rahab the prostitute justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out by another way? 26 For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead.

Back to School Blessing – Pillar Oceanside will be serving our community by hosting a Back to School Blessing. On Saturday, September 17 several things will happen. First, we will be doing a mini sports camp, followed by a catered lunch, and handing out backpacks filled with school supplies. The event itself will run from 9am-12pm. More than just the event itself, our aim is to build some follow on relationships that may lead to spiritual conversations and disciple-making opportunities. We are also doing this simultaneously with several other like-minded churches at other parks in the area. We will all gather together afterward and celebrate all the Lord did…and there will be cheesecake. We will be holding two training sessions to ensure the event is the best it can be. These trainings will be on August 20th & 27th from 9-11am. If you are interested in participating in blessing our community, please contact Trace at [email protected] or 760-505-0843.

Come Hungry – It’s Come Hungry season! As our Life Groups are on break during the summer, we take the opportunity to fellowship and enjoy some family time.

Our Come Hungry fellowships happen every other Sunday following service and we need hosts! Hosts will be responsible for choosing a theme for the potluck and providing a portion of the main meal, and you can either host at your home or at Melba Bishop park. Check out the dates below and mark your calendars. If you are interested in hosting, please contact Jacque Martin at (619) 890-9534 or [email protected]. Our Come Hungry dates and locations are:

August 14 — Melba Bishop Park, Johnsons hosting
August 28 — Del Rio Elementary, Annual Chili Cook-off & Cornhole Tournament!

ManDown 2022 – Within the Praetorian Project, ManDown men’s retreats have been held annually for the last 10 years on the East Coast. This year, that changes as we bring ManDown to Southern California! This 2-day event in October will help men to grow in their faith, deepen their love for Christ, and do all kinds of cool man-stuff. The event will join men from all three SoCal Pillar churches as we gather October 21-23 (Friday evening-early Sunday morning) in Idyllwild, CA. More details to come, but mark you calendars and begin setting aside some money for this worthwhile event!

Giving – There are several ways to give at Pillar Church. Click here to give online, or you may drop your offering in the box located on the Welcome Table. Thank you for your contribution!

Fight Clubs are same-gender groups of about three people encouraging each other to live a life aligned with the gospel of Jesus Christ. The ultimate goal is to love Jesus more, through our affection for him and our allegiance to him, by helping each other rehearse the gospel and fight sin. Fight Clubs strive to meet at least twice a month for an intentional, focused time devoted to the word and genuine fellowship. For more information or to sign up contact:
